[News Culture] BTS made its first trip to Peru a major stadium run, drawing roughly 151,500 fans across three sold-out shows in Lima.
The group performed at Estadio San Marcos on Oct. 7, 9 and 10 as the second stop on the South American leg of its “ARIRANG” world tour, following Bogotá. The Lima run was initially announced for two nights before a third date was added in response to demand, with all three performances ultimately selling out.
For many fans, the shows marked the first chance to see BTS perform in Peru. The crowd filled the stadium with sing-alongs throughout the set, while the members addressed fans in Spanish between songs.
Jimin, whose birthday falls on Oct. 13, thanked the audience for the reception and said he would remember the support he received from fans on the other side of the world.
The concerts also generated activity well beyond the stadium. Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism estimated that the three dates would produce about $18.7 million in tourism spending through hotels, restaurants, transportation and other services. Lima’s Chamber of Commerce separately projected a broader economic impact of between 150 million and 200 million soles.
The impact was visible in local transportation as well. El Comercio reported that demand for ride-hailing trips around San Marcos surged as much as 48-fold during the first concert, reflecting the scale of movement around the venue.
Lima follows BTS’ opening South American stop in Bogotá. The group will next head to Santiago on Oct. 14 before continuing through Argentina and Brazil.
