YUQI Faces Her Past in Cinematic Intro Film for New EP ‘二十七 (27)’

The i-dle member has unveiled the intro film for her second mini album “二十七 (27),” using a cinematic encounter between her past and present selves to introduce a record shaped around the age of 27.

The film draws its emotional tension from a simple visual divide. A long-haired YUQI appears in rain-soaked black and white, while her present-day self, wearing a sharp bob, is shown in color as she quietly looks into the water beneath her.

Rather than treating the two versions as separate characters, the film gradually brings them together. When the present YUQI reaches toward the reflection of her younger self, the monochrome figure begins to smile again. A burning sunflower is restored in the process, turning one of the film’s darker images into a symbol of recovery.

YUQI’s Chinese-language narration gives the sequence its clearest emotional frame. She speaks to a younger version of herself who carried pain she could not express, while reminding her that freedom and passion were always closer to her true nature.

The sunflower returns in the closing message, with YUQI wishing that her 27-year-old self will continue growing toward the light.

That image also connects the intro film to the artwork already released for “二十七 (27).” Rather than presenting the album simply as a milestone tied to her age, YUQI is using 27 as a point from which to look backward and forward at the same time.

The contrast between monochrome and color, long hair and short hair, and isolation and reconciliation gives the comeback campaign a distinctly autobiographical tone. It also suggests that the new record will spend less time defining who YUQI is now than tracing how she arrived there.

“二十七 (27)” marks her first solo return in roughly a year and a month, placing a more personal narrative at the center of her latest project.

The album will be released Oct. 8, alongside promotional activities including the character pop-up “TODAY WITH GIGI.” YUQI is also set to meet fans across four cities in China through the “2026 YUQI Fan-Con ‘27’.”
