[News Culture] ILLIT ended its first tour on a high in Hong Kong, where two nights of packed-out pop spectacle made the finale feel less like a goodbye than a preview of the group’s next chapter.
The five-member act took over Hall 10 at AsiaWorld-Expo on Aug. 22 and 23 for “ILLIT LIVE ‘PRESS START♥︎’ in HONG KONG.” The weekend marked ILLIT’s first headlining appearance in the city and closed the original run of a tour that had traveled to seven cities for 15 shows since March.
The group won over the local crowd early with a pair of Hong Kong pop tributes. YUNAH and MINJU teamed up for “Dreams,” while WONHEE and IROHA performed “Next Stop: Tin Hau.” Between songs, the members addressed the audience in Cantonese, drawing some of the night’s biggest cheers.
That local connection carried through the rest of the show. Fans sang back every word of “Magnetic,” the debut smash that launched ILLIT onto the global stage, before joining the choreography during “It’s Me.” The recently released “I Got Your Back” showed a more assured side of the group and underscored how much its stage presence has developed over the course of the tour.
The closing weekend offered a snapshot of a young act quickly learning how to command an arena. ILLIT moved comfortably between tightly choreographed numbers and relaxed fan interactions, allowing the show to breathe without losing its momentum.
By the finale, the concert had become a celebration shared with GLLIT, the group’s fandom.
“You gave us an experience we will never forget,” ILLIT told the audience. “This show may be over, but our story is still being written. We hope you will continue to be part of it. We promise to keep growing and return as an even better ILLIT.”
Fans will not have to wait long for the next chapter. ILLIT will stage two encore concerts at Inspire Arena in Incheon on Oct. 17 and 18 before heading to LaLa Arena Tokyo-Bay in Chiba for four year-end shows on Dec. 23, 24, 26 and 27.
The expanded schedule gives “PRESS START♥︎” a second life after its Hong Kong finale and reflects the demand ILLIT has built during its first months as a touring act.
