[News Culture] Musical theater star Kim Sohyang will celebrate her 25th anniversary with her first solo concert in five years.

EMK Entertainment announced Aug. 10 that “Hyanghada 2: Bright 香,” Kim’s 25th-anniversary concert, will be held over three days from Sept. 4 to 6 at SA Hall in Seoul.

The concert marks the long-awaited follow-up to “Hyanghada,” her 20th-anniversary show. Kim will revisit the music and stories that have shaped her career while sharing a more personal side of herself with fans who have waited five years for her return.

Like its predecessor, which unfolded through the dramatic arc of a one-woman play, the new concert will blend music and storytelling into a theatrical production. The subtitle “Bright 香” draws on the Chinese characters in Kim Sohyang’s name, which carry the meaning of “bright fragrance.” Kim personally proposed the title, giving the concert an added layer of intimacy.

Music director Hwang Minjeong, who worked on the original “Hyanghada,” returns to shape the sound of the new production. Kim has also been involved from the earliest planning stages, contributing to the script and direction as well as appearing onstage. Her role as both performer and creator is expected to make the concert an unmistakably personal reflection of her artistry.

Kim made her musical debut in “Godspell” and has since become one of South Korea’s leading musical actresses. Her major credits include “Evita,” “Anna Karenina,” “The Man Who Laughs,” “Marie Antoinette,” “Sister Act,” “Mozart!,” “Marie Curie,” “Frida,” “West Side Story” and “Yumi’s Cells.”

Known for her world-class vocals, commanding stage presence and versatility across eras and genres, Kim has brought a distinct identity to every role she has played. She was named Best Actress in a Musical at the 2019 StageTalk Awards and continues to command the stage with the depth and confidence built over a quarter-century career.

“I spent the past five years searching for a story that could go beyond the first ‘Hyanghada,’” Kim said. “This will not simply be a fan meeting. I hope it becomes another complete work—one that allows audiences to look back on their own lives through my story.”

“As an actress marking her 25th anniversary, I want to share my most honest feelings,” she added. “I am preparing every part of this concert with the audience in mind so that I can return all the love I have received onstage.”

“Hyanghada 2: Bright 香” will be performed at 8 p.m. on Sept. 4, 6 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 5 p.m. on Sept. 6 at SA Hall in Seoul. Fan club presales will run from 2 p.m. on Aug. 12 through 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 13. General ticket sales open at 2 p.m. on Aug. 18 through Ticketlink.
