[News Culture] Audiences may still be debating Hope, but they have not stopped buying tickets. Na Hong-jin’s latest dominated its second weekend in theaters, pushing its cumulative admissions beyond 3.4 million.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), Hope drew 285,882 moviegoers on July 26, taking its total to 3,415,709. The film added 767,365 admissions over the July 24–26 weekend and has now spent 12 consecutive days at No. 1.
Its climb has been swift: 1 million admissions in three days, 2 million in five and 3 million by Day 11. That pace has held despite sharply divided audience reactions, turning the film into one of the summer’s most closely watched box office stories.
Set in Hopo, a remote port community near the Korean Demilitarized Zone, Hope begins when local youths report seeing a tiger. For police outpost chief Beom-seok, the strange sighting soon opens the door to a reality far more unsettling than anyone in the village could have imagined.
Minions & Monsters remained the closest challenger, though still far behind, with 48,445 admissions on Sunday. The animated feature has now drawn 562,965 moviegoers.
The adventure follows James, Henry and Ed, three Minions dreaming of making a blockbuster debut, as their filmmaking ambitions send them in search of monsters.
Moana took third with 34,802 admissions, bringing its cumulative total to 909,270.
Toy Story 5 followed at No. 4 with 22,487 admissions. The Disney-Pixar sequel has now reached 2,837,123.
David returned to the top five with 20,815 admissions, lifting its cumulative tally to 220,357.
