[News Culture] So Ji-sub is done running. With Agent Kim Reactivated down to its final two episodes, Kim Do-hyeon is back in full operative mode—and this time, Choi Dae-hoon and Yoon Kyung-ho are fighting right beside him.

New stills from Episode 9 tease what amounts to a three-man assault, but there is little overlap in how they get the job done. Kim Do-hyeon moves through enemy territory armed and nearly invisible in black tactical gear. Seong Han-soo turns to the taekwondo skills of his competitive past, while Park Jin-cheol favors the most direct option available: brute force.

The escalation comes just as the SBS series is hitting its strongest numbers yet. Episode 8 climbed to 23.6 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area and 23.1 percent nationwide, according to Nielsen Korea, with its highest-rated minute reaching 26.2 percent. The performance marked another personal best for the drama and put it ahead of every other miniseries broadcast so far in 2026.

The ratings surge coincided with a major turn in Kim’s story.

His hopes of leaving the past behind and starting over with his daughter Min-ji (Seo Soo-min) were shattered when he was pulled into one final assignment involving Ri Eung-ryeong (Lee Jae-yong), a high-ranking North Korean defector under his protection.

Then Joo Kang-chan (Joo Sang-wook) changed the game.

By the end of Episode 8, Kim had reunited with Seong Han-soo (Choi Dae-hoon) and Park Jin-cheol (Yoon Kyung-ho), only for the three men to find themselves boxed in by special operations agents. Episode 9 picks up from that standoff and lets each member of the unlikely trio loose.

Kim operates with the economy of a man who has done this countless times before. A rope over his shoulder and a handgun at the ready, he infiltrates the compound without wasted movement—a sharp reminder that the suburban father viewers first met has never completely stopped being a highly trained operative.

Han-soo brings an entirely different energy to the fight. Once a top-level taekwondo competitor, he uses the tight confines of a kitchen to his advantage, firing off kicks at close range without losing the mischievous streak that distinguishes him from his more severe partners.

Jin-cheol has no interest in subtlety. He punches his way through a corridor before climbing above an elevator to rig an explosive, making sheer physical force his calling card as the operation intensifies.

Yet the biggest question hanging over the final two episodes is not how many opponents the trio can take down.

For Kim, everything still comes back to Min-ji. The mission has dragged him deeper into the violent life he wanted to escape, and getting his daughter back—and finally giving her the normal life he promised—remains the one victory that matters.

That tension between professional instinct and personal desperation also defines So Ji-sub’s performance heading into the finale. Rather than turning Kim into a flashy action hero, the actor keeps his movements compact and deliberate, selling the character as someone whose training has become muscle memory.

Choi Dae-hoon provides a looser counterweight, allowing Han-soo’s humor to survive even when the situation turns dangerous. Yoon Kyung-ho, meanwhile, leans into Jin-cheol’s physical presence, giving the trio three clearly different rhythms whenever the action breaks out.

The production team teased that Kim, Han-soo and Jin-cheol will each bring their signature weapons to the coming showdown, with more reversals promised across Episodes 9 and 10.

With Joo Kang-chan closing in and Kim’s chance at an ordinary future hanging in the balance, Agent Kim Reactivated now has just two episodes left to decide whether its reluctant operative can fight his way back home.

Episode 9 airs July 24 at 9:50 p.m.
