Jun Ji-hyun has added another milestone to her international career, receiving one of the highest honors at the 25th New York Asian Film Festival in recognition of her long-standing contribution to Asian cinema.
The actress accepted the Extraordinary Star Asia Award during the festival's gala ceremony on July 11 (local time). The award recognizes performers whose body of work has helped elevate Asian cinema while earning sustained recognition on the international stage.
Over the course of her career, Jun has built one of Korean cinema's most recognizable filmographies through titles including Il Mare, My Sassy Girl, Windstruck, The Thieves, The Berlin File and Assassination, demonstrating remarkable range across romance, action and drama.
This year, she returned to the big screen in Colony, portraying biotechnology professor and survivor-group leader Kwon Se-jung. Her nuanced performance, balancing resilience, leadership and emotional conflict, drew widespread praise as the film became a commercial success after surpassing its break-even point.
Colony also received international attention with an official invitation to the Midnight Screenings section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, reinforcing both its critical reputation and commercial appeal.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the New York Asian Film Festival remains one of North America's leading showcases for Asian cinema. Colony opened this year's festival, with Jun Ji-hyun and director Yeon Sang-ho attending the event together.
Jun is next set to return to television in the upcoming drama Human X Gumiho.
