More than a showcase of star dancers, Étoiles du Présent 2026 captures the artistic breadth of contemporary ballet. Curated by Paris Opera Ballet Étoile Sae-eun Park, the international gala brings together principal artists from some of the world's leading companies in a program where classical masterworks, contemporary choreography and a world premiere unfold on the same stage.
Presented at the Seoul Arts Center Opera Theater from July 29 to Aug. 2, the gala offers a rare opportunity to experience the distinct artistic identities of major ballet companies within a single production. Rather than focusing on one school or choreographic tradition, the program places contrasting styles in conversation, reflecting the diversity that defines ballet today.
Artists from the Paris Opera Ballet, La Scala Ballet, and New York City Ballet lead the cast, each bringing the aesthetic heritage of their company to the stage. French refinement, Italian virtuosity and American dynamism coexist throughout the evening, revealing how different traditions continue to shape the evolution of classical dance.
The classical repertoire remains at the heart of the gala. Highlights from Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, Swan Lake, La Bayadère and The Sleeping Beauty reaffirm the enduring appeal of nineteenth-century ballet while allowing today's leading dancers to reinterpret iconic roles through their own artistic voices.
Contemporary choreography broadens the evening's perspective. Roland Petit's Carmen combines theatrical intensity with psychological depth, while Benjamin Millepied's Night Falls explores an organic relationship between movement and music. Works by David Dawson further demonstrate how contemporary ballet continues to expand the expressive possibilities of classical technique.
A world premiere provides one of the gala's defining highlights. Clair de lune, choreographed by Jean-Guillaume Bart for Sae-eun Park, receives its first public performance during the engagement. Set to the music of Claude Debussy, the new work pairs Park's artistry with a live performance by pianist Jeongbeom Son, creating an intimate dialogue between choreography and music.
Live accompaniment plays a central role throughout the evening. Selected works feature piano and cello performed on stage, allowing dancers and musicians to respond to one another in real time.
