JTBC's Reborn Rookie escalated its corporate succession battle in Episode 9, with Hwang Jun-hyun (Lee Jun-young) making a calculated decision that dramatically shifts the balance of power inside Choi Sung Group.
After confirming Kang Yong-ho's (Son Hyun-joo) death, Jun-hyun resolves to take matters into his own hands. Faced with mounting pressure and the uncertainty surrounding his own fate, he concludes that direct action is his only remaining option.
Jun-hyun then approaches Kang Jae-kyung (Jeon Hye-jin) with an unexpected proposal, declaring that he will stand on her side rather than supporting Kang Bang-geul (Lee Joo-myung). His willingness to exploit Bang-geul's vulnerabilities signals a far more calculating strategy than before.
His plan quickly begins to unfold. Cho Sun-hee (Yoon Yoo-sun) accepts responsibility for the company's slush fund scandal and is taken into custody, forcing Bang-geul to surrender her shares in an effort to contain the fallout. Each development falls into place according to Jun-hyun's carefully constructed plan.
The episode delivers another major turning point during the company's inauguration ceremony, where Jae-kyung announces the creation of a new Future Business Team and appoints Jun-hyun as its leader. The unexpected alliance leaves those around them stunned and fundamentally alters the direction of the succession battle.
Despite appearances, however, Jun-hyun's true objective lies elsewhere. His plan is to separate Bang-geul and Sun-hee from the Choi Sung family altogether by securing enough money for them to leave the country, choosing to shoulder the risks himself.
His strategy is complicated when Bang-geul refuses to leave. Instead, she chooses to remain by Jun-hyun's side, creating a new variable that once again throws the situation into uncertainty.
Episode 9 recorded nationwide ratings of 10.4%, with 10.6% in the Seoul metropolitan area, maintaining the drama's double-digit performance.
