[NewsCulture] South Korean film and content studio Showbox is accelerating its push into the global short-form entertainment market through a new production partnership with ReelShort, one of the world's largest vertical drama platforms.
The companies have signed a co-production agreement to develop short-form drama content based on ReelShort's popular intellectual properties. The partnership is expected to expand further into original productions as both sides seek to capitalize on the rapidly growing global short-form video sector.
Under the agreement, jointly produced titles will premiere exclusively on ReelShort for six months, reaching audiences across more than 100 countries. With ReelShort's most successful titles already demonstrating strong traction in North America and other international markets, industry attention is focused on how the platform's proven IP portfolio will combine with Showbox's production expertise.
The partnership builds on Showbox's recent push into short-form content, an area the company has identified as a key growth segment. Leveraging its established track record across film financing, distribution and series production, Showbox is seeking to broaden its content portfolio and strengthen its presence in the evolving global entertainment landscape.
"K-content capabilities developed at the forefront of the industry and ReelShort's global platform competitiveness will allow us to expand into a wider range of genres and formats," Showbox said. "We aim to create new success stories while further strengthening our content business."
ReelShort also highlighted the strategic value of the collaboration.
"By combining our audience data insights and global distribution network with Showbox's strengths in content planning, development and production, we intend to deliver premium short-form dramas designed for the fast-growing global vertical entertainment market," the company said.
Showbox is one of South Korea's leading film investors and distributors, known for major box-office successes including The King's Warden (2026), Exhuma (2024), A Taxi Driver (2017) and Assassination (2015). The company expanded into series production with Itaewon Class in 2020 and later produced Netflix's A Killer Paradox. It has also continued to broaden its international footprint through partnerships with overseas content companies, including a strategic alliance with Thailand-based M Studio last year.
