The Korea Football Coaches Association (KFCA), led by president Seol Dong-sik, has released an official statement regarding the recent resignation announcement of Korea Football Association (KFA) president Chung Mong-gyu, stressing the importance of unity and solidarity within Korean football as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

While acknowledging that differing opinions exist regarding Chung's decision to step down, the association expressed concern over the leadership vacuum created at a crucial time for the national team. The KFCA emphasized that all stakeholders should work together to ensure stable management of the national team and strengthen South Korea's competitiveness ahead of the tournament.

The association also voiced concerns over what it described as excessive criticism and controversy surrounding the national team's coaching staff. It stated that constructive criticism and oversight are essential, but warned that attacks and public pressure not based on verified facts could negatively affect the team's operations and on-field performance.

While recognizing the need for accountability and scrutiny in football administration, the KFCA argued that excessive external pressure during the World Cup preparation period could undermine the stability required for the national team to perform at its best.

The statement further stressed that Korean football belongs not to any individual or organization, but to the nation as a whole. The association called on all sectors of the football community to cooperate and unite in support of a successful World Cup campaign. It also urged the Korea Football Association to restore organizational stability as quickly as possible and to adopt a forward-looking approach that meets the expectations of football supporters.

Founded in 2024 by current and former football coaches, the Korea Football Coaches Association serves as a platform representing the voices of coaches while offering policy recommendations aimed at developing Korean football.

Prior to its official launch, the association publicly criticized the failure of South Korea's men's football team to qualify for the Paris Olympics. Since its establishment, it has also spoken out on issues surrounding the appointment process of the men's national team head coach and previously called for Chung Mong-gyu's resignation.

However, during the election for the 55th president of the Korea Football Association in 2025, the KFCA formally endorsed Chung's candidacy.

More recently, the association highlighted concerns over what it described as the burdensome requirement for aspiring football coaches in South Korea to obtain both a FIFA coaching licence and a government-recognized sports instructor certification, despite already holding the necessary football coaching qualifications.
