Acclaimed Korean violinist Baek Ju-young will offer listeners an intimate look into her musical journey when she appears on EBS FM's Jung Kyung's Classic Classic on June 10.
Featured in the program's weekly interview segment, Baek is set to reflect on a career that has taken her from major international competitions to some of the world's most prestigious concert stages, while also shaping the next generation of musicians through her work in higher education.
Recognized early for her success on the international competition circuit, Baek established herself as one of Korea's leading violinists through performances across North America, Europe, and Asia. Her artistic achievements earned praise from prominent figures in contemporary classical music, helping solidify her reputation on the global stage.
The broadcast will also explore her parallel career as an educator. Appointed as the youngest professor in the history of the College of Music at Seoul National University, Baek will discuss the challenges and responsibilities that accompanied the appointment, as well as the rewards of mentoring emerging performers.
Drawing on her recent experience as an international competition juror, she will share observations about the evolving classical music landscape, the growing prominence of Korean musicians worldwide, and the qualities that distinguish today's young artists.
Listeners will also hear reflections on her formative years abroad, the pressures of preparing for major competitions, and the artistic motivation behind her ambitious project to perform the complete solo violin works of both Johann Sebastian Bach and Eugène Ysaÿe in a single day. The conversation is expected to delve into the interpretive philosophy and musical curiosity that have guided her decades-long career.
A live performance segment will conclude the program, with Baek joined by pianist Kang Eun-jung for performances of Vocalise by Sergei Rachmaninoff and Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso by Camille Saint-Saëns, showcasing both lyrical depth and virtuosic brilliance.
