Doctor on the Edge is already making a strong impression after just two episodes, with viewers quickly embracing the chemistry between Lee Jae-wook, Shin Ye-eun, and the drama’s rising young cast.
From its premiere, the ENA medical romance drew attention with the fateful first meeting between public health doctor Do Ji-ui (Lee Jae-wook) and nurse Yook Ha-ri (Shin Ye-eun). Do Ji-ui’s chaotic adjustment to life on Pyeondongdo Island delivered both laughs and heart-fluttering moments, while the series earned praise for blending medical drama, human stories, and romance into a cohesive narrative.
The ratings reflected the growing interest. After opening with 4.0 percent, Episode 2 climbed to 5.0 percent nationwide and 5.1 percent in the Seoul metropolitan area, peaking at 5.6 percent and securing the top spot in its time slot.
At the center of the story is Do Ji-ui, a public health doctor burdened by a deep-seated fear of islands, and Yook Ha-ri, a nurse carrying secrets of her own. Lee Jae-wook has earned praise for balancing playful comedy with emotional sincerity, particularly in scenes involving patients. Shin Ye-eun, meanwhile, has brought warmth and depth to Ha-ri, subtly revealing the emotions hidden beneath her bright and confident exterior.
Their effortless back-and-forth dynamic has quickly emerged as one of the drama’s strongest attractions.
The youthful ensemble surrounding them adds another layer of appeal. Hong Min-gi, Lee Soo-kyung, and Kim Yoon-woo each bring distinct personalities to the story, creating a vibrant group dynamic that enriches life on the island. As hints of shared history between the characters gradually surface, curiosity surrounding their relationships continues to grow.
Behind-the-scenes footage has also highlighted the cast’s natural camaraderie. The cheerful atmosphere on set is said to have strengthened the drama’s warm and uplifting tone, translating directly onto the screen.
The production team teased that Episodes 3 and 4 will focus on Do Ji-ui’s continued struggles adapting to life on Pyeondongdo. They also hinted at a pivotal incident that will reshape his perspective on both the island and Yook Ha-ri, setting the stage for further emotional development.
