“From the moment I signed the contract, my life fell apart.”
A promising young footballer racing toward the pinnacle of his career finds his future overturned in an instant. JTBC's new Saturday-Sunday drama Reborn Rookie, premiering on May 30, is set to deliver a powerful turning point from its very first episode.
In the drama, Hwang Jun-hyun is a football player widely regarded as the next great star thanks to his disciplined lifestyle and steady rise through the ranks. After successfully joining Choi Sung FC, he stands on the verge of taking the next step toward an overseas career, with even bigger opportunities within reach. But the celebration does not last long. In stark contrast to the smiling athlete holding flowers at his signing ceremony, an unexpected traffic accident turns his life upside down. The incident becomes a devastating blow that abruptly cuts short the future he had worked so hard to build as a professional footballer.
Following the accident, Jun-hyun's world begins to collapse. Scenes of him lying pale in a hospital bed, struggling to come to terms with his new reality, and facing police questioning with a mixture of confusion and frustration vividly capture the weight of a life suddenly thrown off course. Most striking of all is the overwhelming sense of emptiness, as though the years he devoted entirely to football have come to a complete stop.
The role of Hwang Jun-hyun is played by actor and singer Lee Jun-young. From the very beginning of the series, he takes viewers through a dramatic emotional journey as a man whose entire life is shaken by a single moment.
According to the production team, “The core of the story is how one unexpected event can change everything in a person's life and the choices that follow afterward.”
The truth behind the day that brought a rising athlete's career to a sudden halt will be revealed when Reborn Rookie premieres on May 30 at 10:40 p.m.
