Global pop icon BTS captivated Mexico City with overwhelming ticket power and unprecedented public attention during the group's first return to the city in nearly 11 years.
On May 12, BIGHIT MUSIC announced that BTS had successfully completed its solo concerts "BTS WORLD TOUR 'ARIRANG' IN MEXICO CITY" held on May 7 and May 9-10 at Estadio GNP Seguros.
The concerts immediately became a major talking point as all 150,000 tickets sold out almost instantly for the group's first full-member Mexico City performances in approximately 10 years and 10 months. Even before the concerts began, BTS generated nationwide attention after receiving an official invitation from Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to visit the presidential palace. The group later greeted nearly 50,000 citizens gathered at Zócalo Square from the balcony, creating a festival-like atmosphere across the city.
The explosive energy surrounding the concerts carried directly into the performances themselves. During "Airplane pt.2," fans erupted into massive singalongs when the members performed the customized lyric, "We goin' from Mexico City." The appearance of dancers wearing traditional Mexican wrestling masks, along with member V enjoying local snack banderillas, further resonated with local audiences by showing respect for Mexican culture.
The members later expressed their gratitude in Spanish, saying, "We will never forget the energy that began at Zócalo Square. We will definitely return to Mexico. We are leaving with unforgettable memories."
The scale of BTS' impact is also expected to generate massive economic effects often referred to as "BTSnomics." According to the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce and related organizations, the three concerts are projected to create approximately $107.5 million USD in revenue, placing the tour alongside some of the biggest global pop touring records in terms of economic influence.
Following the successful Mexico City concerts, BTS will continue its "ARIRANG" world tour on May 16-17 and 19 at Stanford Stadium, bringing the momentum to North America.
