Lim Ji-hee will present a recital exploring the evolution of violin repertoire through works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Johann Sebastian Bach and Johannes Brahms.
The performance is expected to guide audiences through the essence of Baroque, Classical and Romantic violin literature, revealing contrasting musical languages across three eras.
Lim graduated from Yewon School, Seoul Arts High School and Seoul National University before continuing her studies in the United States. She earned a master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music and later completed her doctorate at Rutgers University under renowned violinist Arnold Steinhardt on a full scholarship.
She established herself early through major Korean competitions, including first prize at the Chosun Ilbo Competition and victories at the Kumho Young Artist Audition and Seoul Youth Chamber Music Competition.
Internationally, she received the Eastman Performer’s Certificate and earned awards at the Plowman Chamber Music Competition and the Svirél Chamber Music Competition. She also won the Mendelssohn Fellowship Audition organized by Chamber Music Today.
Her concerto appearances include performances with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean Chamber Orchestra and Prime Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
Chamber music remains another major pillar of her artistic identity. Lim previously performed with the Eastman Chamber Music Society and period instrument ensemble Musica Lyratana, while also appearing at venues near Lincoln Center and international festivals in Japan and the United States.
The recital program opens with Beethoven’s “Violin Sonata No. 5 in F Major, Op. 24 ‘Spring,’” known for its bright lyricism and warm dialogue between violin and piano.
Bach’s monumental “Chaconne” from “Partita No. 2 in D minor, BWV 1004” follows — a cornerstone of solo violin repertoire celebrated for its structural depth and spiritual intensity.
The evening concludes with Brahms’ “Violin Sonata No. 3 in D minor, Op. 108,” a work filled with dramatic tension, Romantic passion and tightly woven ensemble writing between violin and piano.
Pianist Lee Yoon-su will join the performance. A graduate of Yewon School, the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts and Berlin University of the Arts, Lee has won numerous international competitions and collaborated with orchestras including the Berlin Symphony and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
Currently, Lim serves as associate professor at the University of Seoul while remaining active with ensembles including Hwaum Chamber Orchestra and Bobblis Quartet.
