Kim Han-min, the director behind The Admiral: Roaring Currents and the acclaimed Yi Sun-sin trilogy, has revealed a striking new side of Park Bo-gum through his upcoming film The Sword: Rebirth of the Red Wolf.
Currently in production for a 2027 release, the blockbuster historical action film is set shortly after the fall of Goguryeo. The story follows a man who loses his memory and becomes a slave before entering a gladiator-style tournament centered around a legendary sword.
The newly unveiled global teaser image captures Chil-seong, played by Park Bo-gum, standing at a pivotal moment of awakening. After enduring life solely for survival, the character begins to rediscover his true identity amid the brutal conflict surrounding the northern tribes.
The teaser phrase “REBIRTH OF THE RED WOLF” hints at a massive survival narrative and an intense emotional payoff awaiting audiences.
Park Bo-gum reportedly underwent a dramatic transformation under Kim Han-min’s direction, presenting a far more rugged and intense image than in his previous works.
Set in the former Goguryeo territory of Liaodong Fortress, the film blends historical imagination with large-scale action as the legendary sword emerges as a symbol of hope.
The cast also includes Joo Won, Jung Jae-young, Lee Sun-bin, and Tran Thanh.
The film is scheduled for release not only in Korea, but also in Japan and Vietnam.
