The final showdown of MBN’s "2026 Korea-Japan King of Singers" is set to explode with tension as Hong Ji-yun and Cha Ji-yeon step forward with dramatically different strategies to seize victory.
Since its premiere, "2026 Korea-Japan King of Singers" has dominated Tuesday variety ratings with high-stakes performances and intense Korea-Japan rivalry stages. The program has continued to draw attention for blending spectacle, emotion and cross-cultural music exchanges into one large-scale competition.
The May 5 episode centers on the decisive third round of the finals, where the balance of the competition could completely shift. Korean representatives Hong Ji-yun and Cha Ji-yeon are both preparing signature “ace stages,” raising anticipation for a battle that may determine the fate of the match.
Hong Ji-yun captures attention with a performance rooted in Korean identity. Appearing in a Taegeukgi-inspired outfit, she presents a stage combining "Arirang" and "Srirang," mixing traditional sentiment with modern-scale production. Samulnori elements, fan performances and multilingual lyrics are expected to maximize the emotional impact of the stage.
Cha Ji-yeon, meanwhile, takes a completely different route with a powerful “boss concept” performance. Backed by a large group of performers, she plans to overwhelm the stage with explosive vocals and commanding charisma, aiming to flip the atmosphere in an instant.
The studio atmosphere reportedly turned chaotic after the final score reveal. Cast members reacted with visible shock, while singer Lyn was said to have been left speechless by the unexpected results, heightening curiosity over the outcome of the match.
The production team stated, “This is more than just a competition,” adding, “Please stay tuned until the very end to witness the final battle carrying the pride of both countries.”
