POW has officially kicked off a new self-produced music project with the release of “WHY,” the first track from its ongoing “The Demo Tape” series.
On May 5, POW members Yorch, Hyunbin, Jungbin, Dongyeon, and Hong released “WHY” through major streaming platforms as the opening song of “The Demo Tape #1.”
The project focuses on transforming the members’ everyday emotions and personal thoughts into music, while expanding the group’s creative involvement and delivering more honest storytelling through self-produced work.
“WHY” is an R&B- and soul-based track written and composed by member Jungbin.
Explaining the inspiration behind the song, Jungbin said, “I wrote it after seeing two people in front of a school whose relationship felt somewhere between a joke and something real. I wanted to express the complicated emotions of trying to brush something off while still being deeply affected by someone’s actions.”
He added, “I’m excited and nervous to be the first member releasing a song through this self-produced project, but I hope fans will enjoy it.”
“The Demo Tape” project will continue by pairing each member’s original music with special listening sessions where fans can experience the songs together. The group plans to capture small but lingering emotions through the series while offering comfort and relatability to listeners.
Following promotions for “COME TRUE,” POW has expanded its creative role by having all members participate in songwriting and composition. With the group actively involved in everything from demo production to listening-event planning, attention is already growing around future releases following “WHY.”
POW plans to continue unveiling each member’s individual work through the project while broadening its global activities throughout the year.
