Wild Sing reveals a striking transformation by Uhm Tae-goo, who trained like a K-pop trainee to portray a rapper in the upcoming comedy.
The film follows the co-ed dance group “Triangle,” which disbanded overnight at the height of its popularity, as the members attempt a comeback 20 years later.
Uhm Tae-go plays Sang-gu, once an aspiring hip-hop artist who had only minor parts on stage. After the group’s breakup, even his solo album fails, leaving him in debt and working as an insurance agent. The character blends exaggerated ambition with harsh reality, creating humor grounded in struggle.
To prepare for the role, Uhm spent five months in training at JYP Entertainment, working with producer Kass, known for collaborations with Stray Kids and NMIXX. His preparation included rap-making, vocal lessons, styling, and stage performance training.
He developed a distinctive “train-engine” rap style using his husky voice, alongside expressive gestures and choreography that complete the character’s comic identity.
Uhm described the role as “a completely new challenge in every aspect,” adding that taking part in the project itself felt like a major step forward.
"Wild Sing" is set to open in Korea on June 3.
