Hope, directed by Na Hong-jin and starring Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Jung Ho-yeon, has unveiled its first stills, offering a glimpse into its tense and enigmatic world.
The story begins as Beom-seok, the head of a local office in a demilitarized zone village, hears reports that a tiger has appeared. As panic spreads, the village is thrust into a state of emergency, and the characters are forced to confront a reality that defies belief.
The newly released images capture moments of urgency. Beom-seok (Hwang Jung-min) is seen behind a fogged window as if being watched, while Seong-gi (Zo In-sung) aims a rifle deep in the forest. Seong-ae (Jung Ho-yeon) stands armed amid the ruins of a devastated village, intensifying the sense of imminent danger.
Set against Hopo Port, the stills highlight the raw reactions of individuals facing an unfolding crisis. Beom-seok takes cover behind a crumbling wall with a gun, Seong-gi urgently makes a call, and Seong-ae reacts in shock near a police vehicle, suggesting a desperate struggle to protect the village.
Following the acclaim of The Chaser, The Yellow Sea, and The Wailing, Na Hong-jin returns with a project long in development. "Hope" has been invited to the Competition section of the Cannes Film Festival and will hold its world premiere there before meeting audiences in theaters this summer.
