Salmokji has crossed the 2 million mark, extending its dominant box office streak.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on April 28, Salmokji drew 41,902 viewers on April 27, holding the No.1 position for 20 consecutive days. Its cumulative audience has reached 2,025,662.
The film’s 2 million milestone marks the highest-grossing performance for a horror title in the post-pandemic era. It is also the first Korean horror film in eight years to surpass 2 million admissions since Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018).
The horror film follows a mysterious figure captured on a road-view image at Salmokji, leading a film crew back to a reservoir for reshoots, where they encounter something lurking in the dark depths of the water.
AUDITION 109, the sequel to Wind, climbed to second place with 15,630 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 179,528.
The film follows “Jjang-gu” (Jung Woo), an aspiring actor who persists through repeated setbacks, driven by his dream of becoming an actor.
Project Hail Mary ranked third with 15,612 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 2,506,504.
The film centers on a scientist who wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory and must carry out a final mission to prevent humanity’s extinction. It is based on the novel by Andy Weir, author of The Martian.
The King's Warden placed fourth with 10,114 viewers, pushing its cumulative total to 16,716,939. The film remains No.2 on the all-time Korean box office chart, surpassing Extreme Job (16,266,641).
Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, the film tells the story of a village leader who voluntarily chooses exile for the revival of his community and a young deposed king sent into exile.
Ran 12.3, directed by Lee Myung-se, ranked fifth with 7,279 viewers, reaching a cumulative total of 140,927.
The documentary captures the tense on-site moments of those who stepped forward to defend democracy following the sudden declaration of martial law on December 3, 2024.
