The musical Black Mary Poppins returns in a newly expanded form, reshaping its narrative structure for a fresh encounter with audiences.

Production company Shownote announced that this season will introduce an “All-round” version, connecting the core storyline into a unified dramatic flow for the first time.

At the center of the work lies a mysterious mansion fire in 1926. The story follows four surviving siblings and the vanished nanny Mary Schmidt, tracing the interplay between memory and truth. While inspired by the familiar tale of Mary Poppins, the musical departs from its origins, unfolding through darker emotional layers and examining fractures within the human psyche.

Previously, the musical was presented through separate versions centered on individual perspectives—Hans, Hermann, and Jonas—alongside the concluding segment “Anna’s Room.” This season brings these narratives together, allowing the story to unfold sequentially as a single, cohesive structure.

By connecting fragmented viewpoints, the production offers a more layered interpretation of the central incident. Audiences are guided through the full arc of the story, gaining a broader and more complex understanding of the characters’ experiences.

The work moves fluidly across time and memory, blending reality with subconscious perception. Within this structure, it raises questions about free will and the possibility of emotional healing. Over more than a decade since its premiere, the musical has built a dedicated audience, with international runs in Japan and China further extending its reach.

This season features a cast of 16 actors, each bringing distinct interpretations to the roles. Hans Simon is portrayed by Park Jungwon, Moon Kyungcho, and Yoo Taeyul. Hermann Dieter is played by Yoon Seungwoo, Won Taemin, Park Junhyung, and Kim Kyungrrok. Anna Lea is performed by Lee Junghwa, Lee Hanbyeol, and Lee Jaerim, while Jonas Engels is portrayed by Jinho, Jo Sungpil, and Jung Jiwoo.

The central figure Mary Schmidt is shared by Ryu Suhwa, Ahn Yujin, and Hong Ryunhee, each shaping a different emotional tone within the narrative.

By combining structural expansion with diverse character interpretations, this new season aims to clarify and deepen the world the musical has developed over time.

Black Mary Poppins will run from June 18 to September 6 at Link Art Center Bugs Hall.
