The names at the top of the poster are not the title of the performance.

Kim Jiseong on geomungo, Park Sehong on piri, and Ahn Jeongeun on gayageum. “The Classic Project I. K-Classic Korean Traditional Melodies” is structured as a three-day series, with each performer taking the stage alone with their instrument.

The opening night belongs to geomungo player Kim Jiseong. Trained at Yeungnam University and its graduate school of music education, she also completed a diploma in music therapy at the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini in Florence. As a certified performer of geomungo sanjo and a practitioner of Gyeonggi folk songs, she has built a career across performance and education.

Her stage is joined by host Kim Juyeon, sand artist Noh Seoni, and janggu player Jang Juyoung. The program is based on the Han Gapdeuk school of geomungo sanjo, unfolding through rhythmic cycles including jinyangjo, jungmori, and jajinmori. The performance integrates geomungo solo with percussion and sand art, shaping a narrative-driven stage.

The second day shifts to piri player Park Sehong. Currently a member of the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Gugak Orchestra, he studied Korean music at Yeungnam University and later orchestral conducting at Keimyung University. His career spans performance, education, and leadership roles within regional gugak organizations.

His stage expands into a larger ensemble. Daegeum, percussion, taepyeongso, and additional traditional instruments join the performance. The program includes “Sangnyeongsan,” piri sanjo in the style of Park Beomhoon, “Menari” melodies, and “Taepyeongso Sinawi.” What begins as a solo evolves into a broader orchestral texture.

The final day centers on gayageum performer Ahn Jeongeun. Holding a doctoral degree in music from Yeungnam University, she has performed with both the Gyeongsangbuk-do Provincial Gugak Orchestra and the Daegu Municipal Gugak Orchestra. Her career bridges performance, competition recognition, and education.

Her stage brings together host Sung Jeongmo, daegeum player Song Cheolgyu, and janggu player Shim Ikchan. The program includes selections from Junggwangjigok such as “Hahyeon Dodeuri,” “Yeombul Dodeuri,” “Taryeong,” and “Gunak,” alongside Hwang Byungki’s 17-string gayageum piece “Chunseol” and Kim Jukpa-style sanjo.

Court music, contemporary composition, and sanjo converge within a single program.

The structure of the series is direct. Kim Jiseong opens with geomungo sanjo integrated with visual storytelling. Park Sehong expands the second day through instrumental layering and ensemble growth. Ahn Jeongeun closes with a synthesis of traditional and modern repertoire.

The three performers share a single series, yet each stage carries a distinct identity.

The performances take place at the Daegu Music Creation Center: April 23 at 7:30 p.m. with Kim Jiseong, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. with Park Sehong, and April 25 at 3 p.m. with Ahn Jeongeun.
