Salmokji has taken control of the box office in its second weekend, extending its remarkable run.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on April 20, Salmokji drew 161,647 viewers on April 19, holding the No.1 position for 12 consecutive days. Its cumulative audience has reached 1,461,849. Over the weekend period from April 17 to 19, the film attracted 472,121 viewers, continuing its dominant momentum.
The horror film follows a mysterious figure captured on a road-view image at Salmokji, leading a film crew back to a reservoir for reshoots, where they encounter something lurking in the dark depths of the water.
After surpassing its break-even point in just seven days, the film crossed the 1 million mark on its tenth day of release. This pace marks the fastest among horror films since Metamorphosis (2019), reaching the milestone one day ahead of competing title Project Hail Mary.
Project Hail Mary ranked second with 60,873 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 2,298,106.
The film centers on a scientist who wakes up alone aboard a spacecraft with no memory and must carry out a final mission to prevent humanity’s extinction. It is based on the novel by Andy Weir, author of The Martian.
The King's Warden placed third with 30,722 viewers, pushing its cumulative total to 16,589,540. The film remains No.2 on the all-time Korean box office chart, surpassing Extreme Job (16,266,641).
Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, the film tells the story of a village leader who voluntarily chooses exile for the revival of his community and a young deposed king sent into exile.
My Name ranked fourth with 20,963 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 100,141.
The mystery drama interweaves the story of an 18-year-old boy, Young-ok, who seeks to erase his outdated name in 1998, and his mother Jeong-sun, who confronts long-buried memories from Jeju in 1949.
GOAT: The Legend followed in fifth place with 8,682 viewers, reaching a cumulative total of 19,034.
The animated sports film follows the growth of a small goat named Will, who joins a powerful animal-dominated basketball league. The project features creators behind K-Pop Demon Hunters and artists from Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, enhancing its visual quality.
