The B-grade realism comedy play Matryoshka is set to return, bringing back its chaotic humor and high-energy ensemble to the stage this May.
The production follows a struggling theater troupe plagued by chronic financial losses, determined to stage the perfect performance. However, a series of unpredictable mishaps spirals out of control, forcing the members into a frantic and comedic battle to salvage the show. The new season opens on May 1.
The newly unveiled main poster immediately captures attention. Styled like a maestro leading an orchestra, five versions of the troupe leader Nam Dong-jin stand with commanding presence, symbolizing their role in guiding the production. Actors Son Jong-hak, Yoon Je-moon, Jung Suk-yong, Jo Hee-bong, and Tae Hang-ho each portray the character with distinct comedic expressions, capturing both the desperation and determination of a leader striving for perfection.
Behind them, the poster integrates vibrant character visuals of Kwak Yong-jun, Jeon Sara, Na Hwa-young, Joo Da-in, Lee Hye-soo, and Han 씨들, whose unpredictable antics drive the unfolding chaos. The contrast between the solemn conductor figure and the wildly expressive troupe members heightens anticipation for the production’s comedic ensemble.
Packed with relentless humor and high-impact comedic beats, Matryoshka will be staged at the Myeongbo Art Hall Laon Hall, promising an electrifying theatrical experience.
