The massive main stadium transformed into a boundless universe in an instant, as more than 40,000 purple lights shimmered like falling stars. BTS officially launched their largest-ever global tour, BTS WORLD TOUR ARIRANG, in Goyang, marking the beginning of a sweeping journey with fans worldwide.
On April 11, the second night of the Goyang concert took place at Goyang Sports Complex Main Stadium. The tour follows the group’s return as a full seven-member lineup after three years and nine months, coinciding with their fifth full-length album. Under the banner of “BTS 2.0,” the project builds upon the “together and apart” narrative first introduced with their anthology album Proof in June 2022.
The Goyang performance, following their symbolic comeback live stage in Gwanghwamun, serves as the official launch point of a global tour spanning 34 cities and 85 shows. Anticipation from international fans surged as the group unveiled the scale of their upcoming journey.
A 360-degree special stage designed like a rotating windmill structure, combined with a 22-track setlist, framed BTS’s signature restrained yet powerful “Arirang pop” identity. The result was a vast canvas of red and purple hues, blending the group’s performance with the synchronized energy of ARMY.
The concert began with dancers carrying red flares and smoke devices crossing the field without warning, creating immediate tension. Escorted by this formation, the seven members entered with explosive force, opening with “Hooligan.” The hypnotic hip-hop tone of “Aliens” and the LED lift staging combined with traditional drum textures in “Run BTS” rapidly drove the stadium’s energy to its peak.
The following stages explored experimental fusions of digital aesthetics and Korean tradition. “they don’t know ‘bout us,” reinterpreting talchum mask dance through a digital lens, and “Like Animals,” embodying the group’s identity, delivered both visual shock and emotional weight.
“FAKE LOVE,” rearranged with a live band to amplify its dreamlike intensity, was followed by “SWIM,” where massive fabric installations formed the circular ‘ㅇ’ symbol of Arirang. “Merry Go Round” extended the concept, transforming scattered fabric into an ‘=’ shape inspired by seungmu dance, elegantly bridging past and present aesthetics.
During their first talk segment, V and Jungkook shared, “It feels amazing to be surrounded by ARMY again in a 360-degree stage. It’s chilly, but we’ll heat things up.” SUGA and Jimin emphasized, “After years, we’ve packed this tour with new ideas and elements.” Jin and J-Hope added, “Let’s put our phones down today and connect eye to eye.”
The mid-section opened with a large-scale VCR performance. Against the deep resonance of traditional drums, dancers used long fabrics in Korea’s five cardinal colors to create striking visuals. Laser effects mimicking torrents of water, combined with elemental motifs—fire, water, lightning, wind, and light—highlighted each member’s distinct identity.
This sequence transitioned into a stage featuring taegeuk formations created by dancers in red and blue fabrics, symbolizing BTS’s reinterpretation of tradition through their modern lens.
Tracks like “2.0,” driven by cinematic intensity, and “NORMAL,” blending ink-wash style visuals with LED screens, showcased contrasting energies. “Not Today” and “MIC Drop” reinforced BTS’s enduring K-hip-hop identity through sharp rap and dynamic vocals.
“FYA” ignited the stage with heavy bass and flame effects, while a reimagined “FIRE” juxtaposed digital flames for a renewed catharsis. The climax arrived with a global reinterpretation of “Arirang,” where LED ribbon sangmo performances and large-scale ganggangsullae dances merged with ARMY’s participation.
“Body to Body” visualized a tangible “BTS Arirang,” while “IDOL,” set against a digitally recreated Gyeongbokgung backdrop, featured RM in a ceremonial palanquin alongside members circling the track like an Olympic procession, symbolizing “BTS KOREA” embraced by the world.
The encore stage, built around the keyword “Arirang,” shifted toward a more casual and organic atmosphere. As fans’ faces appeared on screen and their light sticks formed a galaxy-like unity, BTS returned with the new track “Come Over,” stepping away from rigid choreography to reveal a more candid presence.
Global hits including “Butter” and “Dynamite,” along with emotionally resonant tracks like “TAKE TWO” and “DNA,” followed in a dynamic sequence. The closing stages, featuring “Please” and the fireworks-filled “Into the Sun,” completed the night with a vivid sense of culmination.
Toward the end, the members shared heartfelt messages. Jimin and RM stated, “It’s been years since our last tour and album. While we’ve changed in many ways, our commitment to walking this path together—and our sincerity toward you—remains the same.”
Jungkook bowed deeply, saying, “No matter the situation, our approach to ARMY is always sincere. I’ll work tirelessly to repay you as a better artist.” J-Hope reflected, “We constantly think about your reactions, even right after the show.” SUGA and Jin added with humor, “We hope you screamed your stress away tonight,” while V lightened the mood with a playful remark about having eaten hot pot before delivering an energetic performance.
BTS will continue their journey after Goyang, heading to Tokyo Dome on April 17–18, before expanding across North America, Europe, South America, and Asia for a total of 85 performances in 34 cities.
