Heo Chan-mi, often described as a resilient figure in the trot scene, is set to reveal a deeply personal family story.
In the April 1 episode of TV CHOSUN’s Dad and Me Season 3, Miss Trot 4 winner Lee Sona, runner-up Heo Chan-mi, and third-place Hong Sung-yoon appear together to share stories beyond the stage. From behind-the-scenes moments of the competition to personal family narratives, the episode aims to draw strong viewer empathy. A special performance is also teased.
Heo Chan-mi opens up about her “trot family,” which shaped her musical path. After starting as an idol trainee and appearing on Produce 101, she went through four audition programs before finishing as runner-up on Miss Trot 4, solidifying her presence.
Her mother had secretly applied for Miss Trot 4 without telling her, hoping to support her daughter’s final attempt. The revelation created a solemn atmosphere on set, as Heo Chan-mi expressed a mix of gratitude and guilt. On stage, the mother and daughter received an all-heart score together, leaving a memorable moment in the show’s history.
Her father’s story adds another layer. Heo Chan-mi revealed that her parents once promoted as a singing duo called “Dulbaragi,” highlighting her musical roots. However, her father eventually left the stage after facing opposition during his marriage.
He later became a quiet but steadfast supporter of his daughter’s journey. During the filming of Miss Trot 4, he reportedly stayed outdoors for long hours to support her, an anecdote that adds emotional weight. He also shared that he once had a chance to pursue a singing career at the same time as Mr. Trot winner Lim Young-woong, drawing further attention.
Heo Chan-mi said, “I wanted to fulfill my parents’ dream,” explaining what led her to take on trot. Attention is now focused on how her family’s choices and sacrifices shaped her musical journey.
