Director Ryoo Seung-wan’s action film “HUMINT” is set to extend its reach worldwide as it approaches the 2 million admissions mark in theaters.
After opening during the Lunar New Year holiday, the film has drawn approximately 1.97 million viewers to date and will premiere globally on Netflix on April 1. Set against the frozen backdrop of Vladivostok, “HUMINT” follows individuals with conflicting agendas whose paths collide amid secrets and truths buried beneath an icy sea.
Known for shaping a distinct action-driven filmography with works such as “Smugglers,” “Escape from Mogadishu,” and “Veteran,” Ryoo once again delivers tightly controlled direction. The ensemble cast, including Zo In-sung, Park Jung-min, Park Hae-joon, and Shin Se-kyung, builds layered tension through intersecting relationships and emotional stakes.
From gunfights to high-speed car chases, the film differentiates its action sequences based on character dynamics, generating a heightened sense of catharsis. The Latvia-based shoot, standing in for Vladivostok’s frozen atmosphere, further enhances the film’s visual intensity and immersive tone.
