BTS' fifth studio album "ARIRANG" is marking a decisive global comeback, combining critical acclaim with overwhelming commercial performance.
According to BIGHIT MUSIC on March 23, major international media highlighted the release across three key pillars: the album’s musical narrative and group synergy, the direct message and stage dominance of the title track "SWIM," and the unprecedented scale of its promotional rollout.
Rolling Stone and NPR praised the group’s strengthened cohesion and distinctive musical identity, while Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter pointed to "SWIM" as a pivotal track defined by its clarity of message and commanding performance. Meanwhile, The New York Times, BBC and The Guardian emphasized the scale of the promotion, including the Netflix live performance, describing it as a result befitting one of the world’s biggest pop acts.
The critical response has translated directly into global metrics. "SWIM" topped Spotify’s Daily Top Songs Global chart for two consecutive days (March 20–21), while all tracks from "ARIRANG" entered the upper ranks, including "Body to Body" at No. 2.
The album has also demonstrated strong physical sales. Within three days of release, it surpassed 4 million copies on the Hanteo Chart, while Japan’s Oricon chart recorded 540,000 units sold as of March 22, placing it at No. 1 on the Daily Album Ranking.
This synchronized surge of critical acclaim and commercial success underscores BTS’ sustained global impact, reaffirming their status as a defining pop icon even after a 3-year and 9-month hiatus.
