In Your Radiant Season | Kiss Turns to Collapse as Chae Jong-hyeop Breaks Down

What should have been a moment of truth instead marked the beginning of collapse. Three people stood at the center of it, unable to avoid what was coming.

Episode 9 of MBC’s In Your Radiant Season (2026) pushed both emotion and mystery to their limits. Seon Woo-chan (Chae Jong-hyeop) spiraled under worsening physical symptoms and fragmented memories, while his connection to Song Ha-ran (Lee Sung-kyung) and Cha Su-jin (Lee Joo-yeon) tightened into a volatile triangle.

Suspicion began with something small. Two identical fountain pens triggered doubt. Woo-chan admitted he had purchased the same model in the United States, and Ha-ran chose understanding over suspicion, accepting that the lie had been for her. That choice, however, deepened Woo-chan’s guilt. Soon after, auditory hallucinations, tinnitus, and hearing loss began to surface, accelerating his collapse.

Ha-ran’s direction became clear. She put away belongings left by her former lover Kang Hyuk-chan (Kwon Do-hyung) and moved toward Woo-chan. A quiet moment of sketching with the pen he gave her confirmed her choice of the present over the past.

Woo-chan’s search for his lost memory brought greater risk. He approached Cha Su-jin, who holds the key to a seven-year-old explosion, and revealed that he had been at the scene. Even the recurring metallic sound tied to a bracelet failed to open the door. Su-jin firmly rejected him, deepening the unresolved truth.

The romance peaked under the night sky. Watching the Milky Way together, Woo-chan and Ha-ran shared a kiss. But the moment shattered instantly as his hearing cut out. Reality overtook emotion. His quiet confession that he wanted to stay by her side “even as seasons change” hinted at the limit closing in.

Elsewhere, loss unfolded in parallel. Kim Na-na (Lee Mi-sook) disappeared after handing everything over, while Park Man-jae (Kang Seok-woo) broke down before someone who no longer remembered him. The emotional dissonance between them lingered heavily.

Yeon Tae-seok (Kwon Hyuk) and Song Ha-young (Han Ji-hyun) continued to diverge. His direct feelings met repeated rejection, leaving only silent grief. Beneath it lay guilt tied to an incident 13 years earlier.

Even the youth narrative wavered. Song Ha-dam (Oh Ye-joo) struggled between exams and love, while Cha Yu-gyeom (Kim Tae-young), despite an uncertain baseball future after surgery, chose to stand beside her. Their choice added a quieter layer of endurance.

All threads converged in the final sequence. A birthday dinner prepared for Woo-chan turned into a nightmare as past trauma resurfaced. A single metallic sound triggered the memory of the explosion, leading to his collapse in the street. At the hospital, the truth emerged: fragments of the accident remained in his brain, and his hearing loss was a direct consequence.

Woo-chan made his decision. He would no longer hide. He would stay, not leave, and tell everything.

But timing was cruel. Outside the emergency room, a shaken Ha-ran faced Su-jin. A fallen bracelet once again tied the three together. As Woo-chan stepped into the hallway, their eyes met.

The truth could no longer be delayed.
