Lee Sung-kyung has once again reinforced her status as a style icon, using fashion not merely as decoration but as a narrative device to build her character.
In MBC’s In Your Radiant Season, she plays Song Ha-ran, the chief designer of the high-end fashion house “Nana Atelier.” Through carefully differentiated styling in each scene, she enhances the drama’s immersion, delivering visual storytelling that aligns closely with the character’s emotional arc.
One of the most striking elements is the sheer range of styling. Lee reportedly wears over 150 outfits throughout the series, each distinct and non-repetitive. From elevated denim setups to the use of textures such as tweed and suede, her wardrobe reinforces the credibility of her role as a designer. Subtle details, including shirt collar variations and scarf pairings, add further nuance, leaving a fresh impression in every scene.
More importantly, the styling functions as an emotional language. In the early episodes, Song Ha-ran appears in restrained, monochromatic office looks, reflecting a guarded and distant personality. Structured silhouettes and cool tones visually communicate her emotional barriers. As her relationship with Sun Woo-chan (Chae Jong-hyeop) develops, softer knits and pastel hues emerge. The gradual shift in texture and color mirrors the opening of her emotional world.
Stylist Jung Da-mi described the core concept as “clothing embedded with emotion and narrative.” Rather than focusing solely on aesthetics, each outfit was designed with a clear rationale tied to the scene. This approach ultimately adds depth to Song Ha-ran as a character.
In the end, Lee elevates fashion into a storytelling instrument. Just as the seasons transition from winter to spring, her character’s inner transformation unfolds organically through styling. With episodes still to come, anticipation continues to build over how she will further evolve this visual narrative.
