Rising actress Jang Se-rim is gaining momentum with her lead role in the short film ‘HAPPILY EVER AFTER,’ officially selected for the Korean Competition (Short Films) at the 27th Jeonju International Film Festival.
Directed by Shin Girin, the film is a three-nation co-production between South Korea, Indonesia, and Malaysia. It follows Yujin, a Korean woman who travels to her boyfriend’s home country for a vacation, only to find herself in an increasingly unfamiliar and unsettling environment.
What begins as a warm welcome from her boyfriend’s family shifts abruptly when he, her only translator, suddenly disappears. Left alone, Yujin becomes caught between cultural expectations and subtle tension, gradually experiencing a suffocating sense of isolation as mysterious incidents begin to unfold around her.
Jang delivers a restrained yet layered performance, portraying Yujin’s psychological unraveling with precision. Her ability to navigate anxiety, silence, and emotional tension positions her as the central force driving the film’s atmosphere.
With the film’s selection at Jeonju, Jang Se-rim is expected to make a definitive impression on global industry insiders, marking a potential turning point in her career.
A graduate of Hanlim Arts High School’s fashion model department, Jang combines a striking physical presence with a duality of innocence and intensity. Since debuting in the 2020 short film ‘Moving On,’ she has steadily built her profile through Netflix’s ‘Extracurricular,’ MBC’s ‘Undercover High School,’ JTBC’s ‘The Story of Mr. Kim Who Works at a Major Company and Lives in Seoul,’ SBS’s ‘Kiss Was a Mistake!,’ and tvN’s ‘Siren.’
