The King’s Warden continues its box office dominance, sustaining strong weekday turnout as it moves within striking distance of another historic milestone.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on March 18, the film drew 120,449 viewers on March 17, holding firmly to the No.1 spot. Its cumulative total now stands at 13,722,161.
Set in 1457 at Cheongnyeongpo, the film follows a village leader who chooses exile for his people and a young dethroned king who shares the same fate. As the first Korean film to spotlight the untold story of King Danjong, it has built steady momentum through strong word-of-mouth, anchored by performances from Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, Jeon Mi-do, and Kim Min.
After surpassing 10 million admissions in just 31 days, the film has continued its upward climb, overtaking 12.12: The Day (13.12 million), Avatar (13.33 million), and Veteran (13.41 million) to rank No.7 among Korea’s all-time box office hits. It is now poised to surpass Frozen II (13.76 million) as early as today.
In second place, Hoppers drew 8,474 viewers, bringing its cumulative total to 547,820. The film follows Mabel, a girl who becomes a robotic beaver through “hopping” technology and ventures into an unpredictable animal world.
Samakdo placed third with 4,558 viewers, reaching 65,267 in total. The film centers on a village bound by prophecy and secrets tied to a cult that vanished after the Japanese colonial era.
HUMINT held fourth with an additional 3,371 viewers, raising its cumulative audience to 1,974,266. Set in Vladivostok, the film depicts a clash of conflicting agendas in a frozen landscape where both secrets and truths are submerged beneath icy waters. Directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, it stars Zo In-sung, Park Jung-min, Shin Se-kyung, and Park Hae-joon.
The re-released Pride & Prejudice (2006) rounded out the top five with 1,270 viewers, bringing its total to 900,792.
