K-pop group BTS has unveiled the trailer for the documentary "BTS: THE RETURN," offering a closer look at the creative struggle and determination behind their long-awaited return.
On March 17, BigHit Music and Netflix released the poster and trailer for the feature-length documentary, which chronicles the group’s path toward their fifth full-length album "ARIRANG." The project follows BTS across three years and nine months, documenting both preparation and reflection leading up to their comeback.
The trailer brings together scenes from past world tours, the members’ military discharge moments and songwriting sessions in Los Angeles. The melody of the traditional Korean folk song "Arirang" flows throughout the video, echoing imagery from the album’s earlier animation referencing the first recorded version of the song in 1896. The soundscape hints at the autobiographical narrative and cultural roots embedded in the new album.
Within the documentary, the members speak candidly about the pressure surrounding their return. “Trends keep changing, and we can’t keep doing the same things forever,” one member reflects. Another adds, “If we’re going to change, this is the moment.”
At the same time, the group emphasizes the identity that remains unchanged despite global success. One voice notes that they are still “kids from Korea,” underscoring the origins that continue to define their music and perspective.
Directed by Bao Nguyen, "BTS: THE RETURN" follows BTS closely through their nearly four-year hiatus and comeback preparations. The documentary will premiere worldwide on Netflix on March 27.
Prior to the release, BTS will unveil their fifth studio album "ARIRANG" on March 20. The group will then present their first comeback performance through "BTS Comeback Live: ARIRANG" at Gwanghwamun Square on March 21.
