JTBC’s “The Practical Guide to Love” opened its premiere with a lively blind date episode, signaling the start of an adult romantic comedy grounded in reality. The series captured the relatable anxieties and fluttering excitement of a career woman inexperienced in love, drawing viewers into her emotional reset.
In the February 28 first episode, Lee Ui-young, who once preferred natural encounters, challenges herself to try a blind date. Han Ji-min, who plays Ui-young, portrays a woman confident at work yet awkward in romance, anchoring the story with understated realism.
At The Hills Hotel, where she works as a senior buyer, Ui-young appears nearly flawless. She deftly resolves supply issues and proves her competence, while also sharing subtle tension with junior colleague Kang Do-hyun. Shin Jae-ha takes on the role of Do-hyun, presenting natural chemistry with Han Ji-min.
The anticipation does not last. Do-hyun confesses that he has feelings for intern Shim Sae-byeok and asks Ui-young for help. The revelation shakes her. Kim So-hye plays Shim, heightening the emotional conflict within the narrative.
Amid her disappointment, Ui-young confides in longtime friend Lim Seung-jun. He advises her to let go of her fixation on organic romance and consider a blind date instead. Ultimately, Ui-young decides to abandon her old dating philosophy and embrace a new approach.
She recalls the hotel general manager’s earlier offer to arrange a blind date and quickly sets it up. With limited dating experience, she studies tips and prepares meticulously, adding comedic brightness to the episode.
Her blind date is Song Tae-seop, portrayed by Park Sung-hoon. Calm and articulate, he gently steers the conversation, gradually stirring Ui-young’s emotions. Their exchange grows more relaxed, building anticipation for what may come next.
Just as the mood deepens, Tae-seop poses an unexpected question. He asks whether she is seeking a relationship with marriage in mind. Confronted with the reality of marriage at the outset of a budding romance, Ui-young is visibly flustered.
The premiere effectively marks the starting point of Ui-young’s transformation. Skilled in her career yet a novice in love, she steps into a reset that promises both humor and heartfelt growth.
