"The sight of citizens protecting the Republic of Korea inside and outside the National Assembly on December 3 that year was more moving than any work of fiction."
Gong Hyung-jin, who built his reputation across film and television through works such as Yeah, Sometimes Look at the Sky (his 1990 debut), Tae Guk Gi: The Brotherhood of War, Failan, and the drama Chuno (The Slave Hunters), is returning to the screen after an eight-year hiatus. He will headline December 3 Martial Law (w.t.) with the subtitle PM 10 24, the first narrative feature film to dramatize the unprecedented December 3 martial law incident in Korea’s constitutional history.
The film reconstructs, through creative imagination, the behind-the-scenes events of that night, examining why and how a state of emergency that should never have occurred in 21st-century Korea was allegedly conspired. The story centers on "Gye-young," a former Prosecutor General from Seocho-dong who enters Yeouido politics and becomes president, portraying with mounting tension the process by which he decides to deploy the extreme measure of martial law.
Gong Hyung-jin, Lee Ga-ryeong, and Lee Sang-hoon have been cast in the leading roles. Gong draws particular attention for selecting this project as his comeback work following a lengthy break. Lee Ga-ryeong, known for her performances in Queen of the House and Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce), takes on the role of "Geun-hee," the president’s wife and a CEO. Lee Sang-hoon joins as "Lee Yong-hyun," Gye-young’s high school senior, adding further dramatic weight.
The project is inspired by the December 3, 2024 martial law incident. Park Kyung-soo, CEO of IP Box Media 1, personally wrote the screenplay and serves as director. With cinematography by Jang A-ram, the film signals the arrival of a tightly constructed political drama capturing the urgency of the event.
Filming is scheduled to begin in the first half of the year.
