Actor Ha Jung-woo makes his return to primetime television after 19 years.
Set to premiere on March 14, tvN’s new weekend drama Mad Concrete Dreams follows a working-class landlord drowning in debt who becomes entangled in a fake kidnapping scheme in order to protect both his family and the building that defines his livelihood. The series unfolds as a suspense thriller driven by unpredictable developments that leave no room for complacency.
The drama has drawn particular attention as Ha Jung-woo’s long-awaited return to television. He plays Ki Soo-jong, a family man who bought a building through extreme leverage, only to find himself buried under debt. Clinging to hopes of redevelopment, Ki struggles to survive until his property faces the risk of foreclosure, pushing him into a desperate fight at the edge of collapse.
Still images released ahead of the premiere capture Ki Soo-jong’s harsh daily reality, far removed from the glamorous image of a wealthy landlord. He works delivery jobs to pay mounting interest, managing an aging building rather than a towering high-rise. Yet within that worn-down property lies his dream of one day becoming a true “successful landlord,” intensifying curiosity over what dangers will soon threaten everything he has invested his life in.
Anticipation is also building around Ha Jung-woo’s performance. As Ki Soo-jong is gradually driven into deeper turmoil, Ha is expected to lead the drama’s suspense through a powerful transformation. Known for delivering his most compelling performances under extreme emotional pressure, his return to television has heightened expectations for a standout portrayal.
The production team stated, “We could not imagine any actor other than Ha Jung-woo for the role of Ki Soo-jong. His irreplaceable performance will keep viewers’ hearts pounding in every episode.”
Mad Concrete Dreams is directed by Yim Pil-sung, known for Antarctic Journal and Persona, and written by novelist Oh Han-ki, winner of the 7th Young Writers’ Award. The drama premieres Saturday, March 14, at 9:10 p.m. on tvN.
