Yoo Jae-myung, Lee Si-eon, and Oh Dal-su, three actors known for their powerful performances, have come together in one film. My Dad Is a Zombie, the feature debut of director Kang Min-woo, co-directed by Kwak Kyung-taek, the filmmaker behind THE FIREFIGHTERS and Friend, has completed casting and officially begun filming.
My Dad Is a Zombie tells the story of a man who, after 20 years in his acting career, encounters the role of a lifetime: becoming a “dad.” It is a bittersweet survival human comedy about a professional zombie extra who cannot stop acting even after the cameras stop rolling, all to protect his son’s innocent worldview.
The film humorously and creatively portrays the tear-jerking challenge of a “fake zombie dad” who dreams of becoming real. It sheds light on the lives of background actors hidden behind dazzling spotlights and the strong love of the families who support them. The protagonist, Seong-jun, is a zombie performance specialist who scares people on set, but at home he is a gentle father who wants to protect his son’s purity. Amid unexpected trials, he embarks on the greatest mission of his life to keep his promise that “Dad is an immortal hero.”
Yoo Jae-myung, who has shown outstanding character versatility in films such as THE FIREFIGHTERS and Harbin, and in dramas including Stranger, Itaewon Class, and Love Me, takes on the role of Seong-jun. Playing a former dancer turned background actor, he will display both strong physical performance and a warm, delicate portrayal of a father enduring a harsh life for his child.
Lee Si-eon, known for his roles in dramas such as Reply 1997 and the Player series, and the film I Killed My Wife, plays the leading actor Oh Seong-jun. Although he shares the same name as Seong-jun, he lives a completely different life, adding tension and depth to the story.
Oh Dal-su, who has appeared in numerous blockbuster films including the Veteran series, Ode to My Father, and Miracle in Cell No. 7, plays Hong-do, Seong-jun’s close friend and supporter. With his rough but warm loyalty, he anchors the emotional core of the film.
In addition, English instructor and history storyteller Sun Kim, known from TV lecture programs such as Scammers and Trivia Masters, makes his screen debut as “Director Yuk,” who leads the film set. Actor Park Soo-young, recognized for his memorable supporting roles in Punch, Architecture 101, and The Big Family, appears as Seong-jun’s fellow actor, depicting the strong camaraderie among struggling performers.
This project has drawn attention as Kwak Kyung-taek, renowned for his human-centered emotional storytelling in Friend, THE FIREFIGHTERS, and The Classified File, joins as co-director to support Kang Min-woo’s debut feature. Expectations are high for the synergy between Kwak’s seasoned directing and Kang’s fresh creative vision.
My Dad Is a Zombie, a film about the most ordinary father delivering the most extraordinary performance, is scheduled to meet audiences in theaters later this year.
