Choi Jin-hyuk and Oh Yeon-seo, the Aftermath of a One-Night Fling
‘Positively Yours’ instantly captured attention in weekend prime time. The meeting of Choi Jin-hyuk and Oh Yeon-seo drew viewers in from the very first episode with a romance that was both bold and refreshingly lighthearted.
The series, which premiered on the 17th, is a reverse-tracking romantic comedy in which a one-night coincidence overturns fate. From episode one, its fast-paced storytelling and the actors’ natural chemistry signaled the arrival of a strong new contender.
The episode opened with an ill-fated first encounter between Doo-jun (played by Choi Jin-hyuk), the second son of the Taehan Group, and Hee-won (played by Oh Yeon-seo), a career-driven woman. Filling in at a VIP party, Hee-won is someone who firmly rejects marriage. Shaped by her parents’ divorce in childhood, she has completely lost faith in it and lives by the belief that “there is no marriage in this lifetime.”
Doo-jun is equally distant from marriage. He keeps others at arm’s length by presenting his nephew as his own child and bluntly states that he has “no time to invest in inefficient matters.” Behind that stance, however, lies his heavy decision to take responsibility for his family and company in place of his deceased brother.
Their connection quickly became complicated when Hee-won, trying to escape from her boss at the party, asked Doo-jun to pretend to be her boyfriend. Her sudden “Honey” remark, the physical scuffle, and the wine accident brought both tension and laughter.
Their ill-fated tie resurfaced again when they reunited at an event held at the Taehan Liquor flagship store. Bonding over their shared love for beer, Hee-won’s confident philosophy intrigued Doo-jun, and a subtle emotional current began to flow between them.
Eventually, Doo-jun and Hee-won chose to spend the night together. The relentless pace of the story heightened immersion, but the next morning Hee-won disappeared, leaving behind only a one-million-won check. Doo-jun was left confused, unable to stop thinking about her.
The twists continued. Visiting a pharmacy because she felt unwell, Hee-won came face to face with the unexpected reality of pregnancy. In the final scene, her reunion with Doo-jun at an obstetrics and gynecology clinic pushed the tension to its peak. His narration, “The woman I had been searching for is now carrying a baby,” left a powerful impression.
The first episode portrayed a romance shaped by coincidence, misunderstanding, and choice. The synergy between Choi Jin-hyuk and Oh Yeon-seo, who brought to life Doo-jun’s seemingly flawless yet clumsy charm and Hee-won’s resolute personality, stood out strongly. Supporting roles by Hong Jong-hyun and Kim Dasom added further energy to the drama.
Based on the web novel and webtoon of the same title, ‘Positively Yours’ follows the consequences of a one-night fling between two people who both rejected marriage. Episode two airs tonight (the 18th) at 10:30 p.m.
