Son Tae-jin, a top vocalist and a graduate of Seoul National University, appears as a new rookie chef on KBS2’s “Stars' Top Recipe at Fun-Staurant.” In this episode, he looks back on a moment in his childhood when his life stood at the edge between survival and death, sharing how that experience shaped the precious bond within his family.
In the released VCR footage, Son Tae-jin is seen cooking together with his mother. Appearing with an elegant smile, the two prepare dishes that had been their childhood soul food and favorite homemade meals. From Korean and Western cuisine to Chinese dishes, Southeast Asian food, and baking, his mother shows remarkable culinary skill. Son Tae-jin supports her attentively, carefully looking after her as they cook side by side. His mother smiles throughout and says, “This time with you makes me so happy.”
During the cooking, Son Tae-jin’s mother brings up a story from his infancy. Her words, “I am grateful that he is alive, just for that,” leave everyone stunned. In an interview, she recalls, “When Tae-jin was born, his condition was extremely serious. The doctor said there was a 50 percent chance of life or death.”
As she remembers her son being placed on the brink of survival right after birth, her eyes fill with tears. Watching her, Son Tae-jin also becomes emotional, his eyes moist with emotion.
The broadcast also reveals a surprising incident that Son Tae-jin’s family recently experienced. He explains, “My parents are in Malaysia, and there was even fake news saying that I married the daughter of a Malaysian department store owner and already have two children.” He expresses his frustration over the false rumors. However, it is said that his father’s unexpected reaction to this fake news turned the studio upside down with laughter.
