Won Jian shared her reflections following the conclusion of the Disney+ Original series Made in Korea.
The series, which aired its final episode on January 14, is set in 1970s South Korea and tells the story of Baek Gi-tae (Hyun Bin), a man who seeks wealth and power by turning the nation itself into a profit model, and Prosecutor Jang Geon-young (Jung Woo-sung), who relentlessly pursues him. Won Jian portrayed Ikeda Yuji, a powerful figure and lobbyist within an Osaka yakuza organization. Through the character, she delivered an intense performance that revealed hidden desires and an unmistakable chilling charisma, marking a complete transformation.
From her very first appearance, Won Jian shifted the atmosphere of the drama through her encounter with Baek Gi-tae. With her restrained voice and fluent delivery of Japanese lines, she heightened the tension of each scene. Her cold gaze and striking visual presence immediately captured viewers’ attention. Whether confronting Baek Gi-tae, Bae Geum-ji (Jo Yeo-jeong), and Cheon Seok-jung (Jung Sung-il), or revealing emotional cracks before Ikeda Osamu (Lily Franky), the boss of the Ikeda organization and her foster father, she demonstrated her depth as an actress through trembling breath control and delicate expressions in her eyes and voice.
Having previously shown a wide emotional range in Surely Tomorrow, from the flutter of first love to dense emotional intensity, Won Jian once again proved her versatility in Made in Korea by presenting a completely contrasting charm. The performance further solidified her potential as a “trustworthy actress” whom audiences can rely on.
Through her agency, Hwin Entertainment, Won Jian said, “It was an honor to be part of such a meaningful project as Made in Korea. I am grateful that I was able to challenge myself with a role I had never experienced before.” She added, “I sincerely appreciate being able to work alongside such an outstanding director, senior actors, and staff. I learned so much through this project, and I thank all the viewers who supported and watched the series.”
