‘I Am a Boxer’ has confirmed its final four contenders who will clash for a place in the championship match.
In episode 9 of the tvN entertainment show ‘I Am a Boxer’ (directed by Lee Won-woong, written by Kang Sook-kyung), airing on January 16, “Body Killer” Kook Seung-jun, “Pretty Boy” Jo Hyun-jae, “Prince” Lee Chae-hyun, and “Thunder” Kwon Oh-gon will face off in the semifinals. With only two matches remaining until the championship belt is decided, all four boxers have expressed stronger determination than ever.
Kook Seung-jun defined his boxing style as “a forward-moving infighter who slowly but endlessly applies pressure.” His main weapon is a powerful body uppercut. Speaking of his semifinal opponent Jo Hyun-jae, he said, “He is a fast and unpredictable outboxer, so he is a tough opponent,” but added, “I will walk him down step by step and break him. Becoming champion is the dream of both myself and my family, and I will absolutely reach that position.”
Jo Hyun-jae responded with a completely different kind of confidence. He described himself as “a player who enjoys the battle in the ring” and said, “My style is cooking my opponent with overwhelming speed and timing.” Naming his rear-hand uppercut and straight punch as his key weapons, he boldly stated, “Since Kook Seung-jun is an aggressive fighter who comes forward, he is actually an easier opponent for me,” and added, “I will show a truly fun and stylish match that I genuinely enjoy.”
The other semifinal features “Prince” Lee Chae-hyun against “Thunder” Kwon Oh-gon. Lee described himself as “a hexagonal boxer with both strong offense and defense” and expressed great confidence in his signature counterpunch, nicknamed “Seukbbak.” He said, “I consider Kwon Oh-gon a formidable opponent, but I do not feel inferior in skill. I am 100 percent confident of victory,” adding, “I will fight each match as if my life depends on it.”
Kwon Oh-gon countered by saying, “My weapons are fast hand speed and destructive punching power. I fight by pressing with jabs, straights, and combinations.” While praising Lee as “a boxer with perfect balance between offense and defense,” he declared, “I will show what the true destructive power of boxing is and prove why I was a champion in two weight classes. Thinking of my wife and son, I will definitely win.”
With tickets to the final on the line, the semifinals between Kook Seung-jun and Jo Hyun-jae, and Lee Chae-hyun and Kwon Oh-gon promise an intense showdown. Only two of the four boxers will advance to the ultimate stage. Episode 9 of tvN’s ‘I Am a Boxer’ airs on Friday, January 16, at 8:30 p.m.
