Park Seo-joon and Won Ji-an ultimately found their way back to each other. After countless misunderstandings, missed timings, and even the weight of public scrutiny, the two finally surrendered to what they once had, to “their happiest time.”
In the final episode of JTBC’s weekend drama Surely Tomorrow, which aired on January 11, Lee Gyeong-do (Park Seo-joon) and Seo Ji-woo (Won Ji-an) were shown choosing each other once again after a long and winding journey. The finale recorded a 4.7 percent viewership rating both nationwide and in the Seoul metropolitan area (based on Nielsen Korea paid households), closing quietly yet leaving a deep emotional resonance.
Lee Gyeong-do relentlessly pursued the corruption of Seo Ji-woo’s brother-in-law Kang Min-woo (Kim Woo-hyung), using information obtained through Ahn Da-hye (Ko Bo-gyeol). From illegal attempts to sell Jarim Apparel to multiple criminal activities, Gyeong-do’s investigation and reporting eventually led to Kang Min-woo’s imprisonment. As a result, Seo Ji-woo and her sister Seo Ji-yeon (Lee El) were able to protect their company.
Even after the truth was revealed, love was not so easily restored. Still deeply in love, Lee Gyeong-do kept his distance, conscious of the world’s gaze, while Seo Ji-woo silently watched over him. In the end, Gyeong-do decided to leave Korea on a long overseas break, determined to forget her.
One year later, Seo Ji-woo remained firmly rooted at Jarim Apparel, while Lee Gyeong-do lived alone in Málaga, Spain, a place filled with their shared memories. Seo Ji-woo also visited Málaga on a business trip to Barcelona, yet the two kept missing each other as if by cruel fate. They reunited in Korea after the death of their former club senior Cha Woo-sik (Kang Ki-doong), and their bond was quietly rekindled.
The destined moment finally came at the airport. Seo Ji-woo appeared to stop Lee Gyeong-do from leaving for Málaga once more. “You are all I need,” she confessed, and Gyeong-do halted his steps. His reply, “In the end, I surrender to our time,” embraced all their longing and love, delivering a powerful emotional payoff.
Surely Tomorrow delicately portrayed a love that stretched from innocent college romance to the harsh realities of adulthood. Its lyrical cinematography, warm OST, and understated yet heartfelt direction turned the drama into one of this winter’s most tender romances.
Park Seo-joon brought depth to Lee Gyeong-do, an ordinary man who loved with extraordinary sincerity, while Won Ji-an gave life to Seo Ji-woo by expressing both her strength and the loneliness hidden beneath it. The supporting cast, including Lee El, Ko Bo-gyeol, and Kang Ki-doong, further elevated the drama’s overall completeness.
Because they separated so many times, their longing grew deeper. Because their journey was messy and imperfect, their love felt all the more real. Surely Tomorrow gently reminded viewers of the times they wish to return to and the love they cannot let go of, reaching a happy ending in the kindest way possible.
