Memories built by Park Seo-jun and Won Ji-an in Malaga, Spain, are creating gentle ripples in viewers’ hearts.
In JTBC’s weekend drama Surely Tomorrow, Lee Gyeong-do (played by Park Seo-jun) and Seo Ji-woo (played by Won Ji-an) portray a deepening emotional connection set against the backdrop of Malaga. Their romance becomes clearer and more vivid in an unfamiliar city, further elevating the chemistry of the so-called “Gyeong-ji couple,” a combination of their characters’ names.
In the story, Lee Gyeong-do unexpectedly arrives in Malaga after following Seo Ji-woo, who is on an overseas business trip to recruit a designer. What begins as a work-related journey gradually transforms into something more personal, as the two spend time exploring the city in search of the designer while remaining fully present in the moment they share together.
Malaga’s refreshing sea and warm sunlight bring a sense of calm not only to the scenery but also to Gyeong-do and Ji-woo’s hearts. Rather than rushing to solve immediate problems, the pair take time to savor their emotions, their gentle smiles reaching viewers beyond the screen and leaving a lingering warmth.
Scenes of the two sharing ice cream and enjoying small, everyday moments at a local market they stumble upon add to the impression. Temporarily setting aside worries and anxiety, they walk hand in hand like an ordinary couple, amplifying the romantic charm of Malaga as a setting.
Especially telling are the moments when Gyeong-do and Ji-woo naturally reflect on their past while spending time together. These scenes convey the weight of shared memories and emotional depth between them. In a foreign city where no one recognizes them, their complete focus on one another becomes a definitive heart-fluttering highlight.
The date scenes unfolding in Malaga have drawn attention not only for the sweet romantic chemistry but also for the warm, vacation-like cinematography unique to the location. The emotions of characters rediscovering love blend seamlessly with the atmosphere of the city, enhancing immersion in the story.
Director Lim Hyun-wook shared behind-the-scenes insight into the Malaga shoot, saying, “In romance, a location goes beyond being a simple backdrop and becomes a character that drives the narrative.” He added, “Rather than focusing on pretty visuals, we concentrated on finding places that could best capture emotion.” He continued, “Malaga is a city that naturally embraces Gyeong-do and Ji-woo’s emotional arc. It is a space with the light and room that allows them to carefully move closer to each other,” further raising anticipation.
The romance between Park Seo-jun and Won Ji-an, as they continue to create new memories in unfamiliar places, is set to continue. Episode 9 of Surely Tomorrow airs on January 3 at 10:40 p.m.
