Director Park Chan-wook’s film “No Other Choice” and the OST from this year’s global-sensation animation “K-pop Demon Hunters” have been selected as preliminary nominees for the Academy Awards in the United States.
According to the shortlist for the 98th Academy Awards announced on the 16th local time by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), “No Other Choice,” submitted as Korea’s official entry, was listed among the 15 films shortlisted for Best International Feature Film.
The work has received critical acclaim for portraying the struggles of a man pushed to the brink after a sudden dismissal, depicted through director Park Chan-wook’s signature mise-en-scène and sharp black comedy.
“No Other Choice” has also been nominated in three categories at the Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy, Best Non-English Language Film, and Best Actor.
In the music category, the main inserted track “Golden” from Netflix’s animation “K-pop Demon Hunters” was shortlisted for Best Original Song.
“Golden” had previously proven its global popularity by topping the Billboard Hot 100 and was recently nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards. With its selection for the Oscar shortlist, it once again demonstrated its musical impact.
The final Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22 next year, with the ceremony scheduled for March 15.
