[News Culture] Director Kim Jang-han and stars Jung Hae-in, Ha Young and Huh Sung-tae are ready to bring romance, comedy and a dash of danger to Netflix with Our Sticky Love.
At a press conference held on Aug. 5, the cast and director offered a closer look at the new series, describing it as an unabashedly romantic comedy sharpened by action and thriller elements.
Our Sticky Love follows Go Eun-sae, an ambitious prosecutor who loses her memory, and Jang Tae-ha, a boxing coach who suddenly appears claiming to be her boyfriend. Their unlikely living arrangement sets off a romance that is sweet, messy and far more complicated than either of them expects.
Kim explained that the Korean title draws on yeot, a traditional Korean confection known for both its sweetness and sticky texture. That image runs through the relationship at the heart of the series, which moves between affection, tension and emotional entanglement.
He said the drama embraces a distinctly Korean sense of warmth and romance while offering emotions that viewers anywhere can recognize.
Jung plays Tae-ha as a man whose loyalty never wavers. The actor said he was drawn to the character’s refusal to abandon the woman he loves, regardless of how dangerous or complicated the situation becomes.
Tae-ha may appear tough and composed in the criminal underworld, but he is far less assured when romance enters the picture. Jung said he worked closely on the character’s contrasting sides, from his action scenes and physicality to his styling and awkwardness around Eun-sae.
Ha Young takes on Eun-sae, a high-achieving prosecutor forced to rebuild her identity after losing her memory. Rather than simply returning to the person she used to be, Eun-sae gradually changes through the people she meets and the life she begins after the accident.
Ha said her focus was on making that transformation feel believable. Although Our Sticky Love marks her first leading role in a romantic comedy, she said the strength of the script and the easy chemistry among the cast made the experience especially enjoyable.
Huh Sung-tae plays Baek Sang-gil, the head of Mirae Eden Company. On the surface, he is a highly successful businessman. Beneath that polished image, however, lies an identity that threatens to upend the entire story.
Huh described Sang-gil as the most socially powerful villain he has played to date, teasing a different kind of menace from the more openly intimidating characters associated with his previous work.
Kim said each actor brought something of their real personality to the screen. Jung’s balance of gentleness and strength, Ha’s bright energy and Huh’s unexpectedly innocent side helped give their characters greater depth.
The first romantic pairing between Jung and Ha also drew attention at the event. Jung compared Tae-ha and Eun-sae’s relationship to yeot, saying it only becomes harder to pull apart as the heat rises.
Ha described them as an anxious girlfriend and a steadfast boyfriend who gradually learn and grow through each other. Their romance, she said, is not simply about attraction but about two people becoming stronger together.
The supporting cast includes Kim Young-ok, Jeon Bae-soo, Seo Jeong-yeon, Jang Hye-jin, Cha Chung-hwa, Kim Mi-hwa, Lee Jae-won and Jung Soon-won. Their characters make up the close-knit community of Yeot Village, bringing additional humor and warmth to the series.
Closing the event, the cast said they hoped the drama would offer viewers an entertaining escape during the summer. Jung wished audiences a few hours away from the heat, while Ha confidently predicted that anyone who starts the first episode will struggle to stop.
Huh added that the series rewards repeat viewing, with small details and hidden surprises scattered throughout the story.
Our Sticky Love premieres worldwide on Netflix on Aug. 7.
