Coupang Play’s The Affair Was Just The Beginning is preparing to send its two neighboring families into an even darker spiral in Episodes 3 and 4, as adultery, blackmail and a deadly accident begin feeding into one another.
The black comedy follows a celebrity influencer couple who have built their brand around domestic bliss and the doctor couple next door, whose marriage is disintegrating in a bitter divorce. Their private betrayals soon become the smallest problem they face when a web of far more dangerous secrets begins pulling both households toward disaster.
The series rose to No. 1 among Coupang Play’s most popular titles following the release of its first two episodes and recorded a viewer rating of 4.6. Newly unveiled stills and a preview suggest that the story is about to accelerate beyond anything the characters can control.
Kyung-hee, played by Kim Hye-soo, and Jae-hong, played by Kim Ji-hoon, are seen standing in a deserted redevelopment district after the hit-and-run.
The couple once made a living selling an immaculate vision of success and family happiness. They are now confronted with a body and a decision that could destroy every part of that carefully manufactured life.
Their next appearance is even more unsettling. With their faces concealed in broad daylight, the two rush through the city as though another threat is already closing in. The images suggest that their attempt to contain one crime may immediately lead them into another.
The fallout soon reaches their daughter Ye-ji, who is directly connected to the accident. Kyung-hee and Jae-hong appear shattered as they face her, while Soo-jung, played by Cho Yeo-jeong, is shown pulling Ye-ji aside for a private conversation.
Soo-jung’s intentions remain unclear. She may be trying to protect the child, uncover what happened or secure an advantage before the truth tears through both families.
Her affair with Jae-hong adds another unstable layer to the crisis. Their relationship grows increasingly dangerous as the accident raises the possibility that every hidden connection between the two households could be exposed.
The situation becomes even more volatile when Kyung-hee unexpectedly encounters Soo-jung’s former husband, Bo-sung, played by Kim Jae-chul. The meeting draws all four adults closer to the same secret, leaving each of them with something to conceal and someone else to distrust.
Episodes 3 and 4 will also introduce a new figure capable of changing the direction of the story: the twin of the private investigator struck in the hit-and-run.
The arrival makes it clear that the victim will not simply disappear without consequences. As questions begin to surface, Kyung-hee and Jae-hong’s cover-up threatens to collapse before it has even begun.
The danger ultimately reaches both families’ children. Ye-ji and Min-seo are seen fleeing together in panic, suggesting that the adults’ betrayals and crimes have placed the girls at the center of a threat they do not fully understand.
The Affair Was Just The Beginning began as a ruthless satire of marriage, infidelity and performative happiness. Its next chapter transforms that satire into a frantic crime story in which every attempt to escape creates a worse problem.
