[News Culture] There was little suspense at the Korean box office over the weekend. Spider-Man: Brand New Day dominated theaters from start to finish, drawing more than 2.25 million moviegoers across its first weekend and extending its winning streak to five straight days.
According to the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), the film added 825,968 admissions on Aug. 2, lifting its total to 3,384,152. Between July 31 and Aug. 2 alone, it sold 2,252,935 tickets.
Its momentum has been relentless. Brand New Day became the fastest release of the year to clear the 1 million-, 2 million- and 3 million-admission marks, reaching 3 million two days ahead of Exhuma.
The latest chapter follows Peter Parker after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Living in a world that no longer remembers him, Peter is forced into another battle when an enemy who still knows his identity emerges just as mysterious new powers begin to spiral beyond his control.
Na Hong-jin's Hope continued its strong run in second place, adding 117,897 admissions. Its cumulative total now stands at 4,110,583, reaching the 4 million mark on its 19th day in theaters.
Minions & Monsters remained third with 23,030 admissions, bringing its total to 713,940.
Moana edged to within touching distance of another milestone. The Disney adventure sold 12,763 tickets on Sunday and now stands at 999,949 admissions—just 51 short of 1 million.
Toy Story 5 rounded out the top five with 11,554 admissions, raising its cumulative total to 2,912,210.
