[News Culture] The Husband pulled its hospital conspiracy into full view in Episode 9, then ended with an immediate threat far more terrifying than anything hidden in its files.

Kang Tae-joo, played by Namkoong Min, uncovered evidence that access to a highly publicized clinical trial had been quietly reserved for the hospital’s wealthiest donors. As he closed in on the people behind the scheme, Noh Man-hee, played by Kim Dae-myung, resurfaced with a bloodied hammer and cornered Go Se-yoon, played by Lee Seol.

The August 1 episode reached a nationwide rating of 7.6 percent and peaked at 8.9 percent, according to Nielsen Korea, setting a new series high.

Man-hee had not been acting alone.

Early in the episode, he received a message instructing him to “go back to the original plan,” along with a photograph of the ₩3 billion in cash that had disappeared from Tae-joo’s trunk. The exchange confirmed that someone else was still directing the operation from the shadows.

Man-hee then visited a hardware store and bought a hammer and cable ties. His calm exterior quickly gave way when the store owner recognized him from a public wanted notice.

The attack that followed stripped away any remaining illusion that Man-hee was merely a pawn. Whatever pressure had set him in motion, he was now operating with a brutality entirely his own.

Tae-joo remained unconvinced by the official account of Ha Jung-soo’s death. Police had treated Jung-soo as the sole architect of the crime, but too many details suggested that he had been following orders.

Kim Kyung-ae, played by Lee Sang-hee, gave that suspicion new weight when she admitted that both she and her husband had been used.

Back at the hospital, Tae-joo took over her treatment and began examining why she had been rejected from a fetal stem-cell clinical trial. She had been told that her criminal record made her ineligible.

The paperwork told a different story.

Tae-joo discovered that the names of those accepted into the trial matched the hospital’s list of major donors. The program had not been selecting patients on medical need alone. Access had effectively been sold.

Se-yoon helped him go further, searching the private study of her father, Go Dong-chan, played by Jang Gwang, and finding records the hospital had kept out of sight.

The implication was unmistakable: what had been promoted as a source of hope was being controlled by money.

Tae-joo told Kyung-ae that she had not truly been rejected. She had never been given a fair chance to begin with.

He also found that her application contained no criminal-history disclosure at all, suggesting that someone had fabricated the reason for excluding her and then used that lie to conceal the real selection process.

The investigation also turned toward Cha Myung-hee, played by Cho Yoon-seo, the junior doctor who had previously offered Tae-joo sympathy.

Jang Do-sik, played by Lee Seok, found surveillance footage showing Myung-hee telling Jung-soo, “You did the right thing.” A forensic review of Kyung-ae’s phone also revealed contact between the two.

The discoveries placed Myung-hee much closer to the events surrounding Jung-soo’s death than anyone had realized.

Do-sik confronted her directly about her relationship with Kyung-ae, widening the case beyond the hospital’s donor network and raising the possibility that Jung-soo’s death was tied to a larger effort to protect it.

The final sequence moved the danger out of the investigation and directly into Se-yoon’s path.

After learning that Man-hee was heading to the hospital, Tae-joo rushed to find her. Se-yoon reached for her phone when Tae-joo called, but Man-hee was already standing in front of her.

He held a hammer stained with blood.

“Long time no see, ma’am,” he said with unsettling ease. “Where’s Mr. Kang?”

As Se-yoon backed away, Man-hee ordered her not to move and raised the weapon.

The episode cut to black with Se-yoon trapped at close range and Tae-joo racing toward a confrontation he might already be too late to stop.

Episode 10 of KBS2’s The Husband airs August 2 at 9:20 p.m. KST.
